Underbeings of Croth

Written by P A Dollemore.

After discovering the secret entrance to an underground village, I have been captured by its guardians and imprisoned below ground. I am now in an iron cage suspended above a dark pit by a chain. Violent roars from below show that the pit is not empty. It is your task to guide me to freedom....

To begin, type 'CLOADM' and press 'ENTER'. If ?IO ERROR appears, rewind the tape, adjust the volume/tone controls on your recorder, and try again.

To give instructions, type them in and press 'ENTER'. Most instructions will be a Verb followed by a Noun, eg. 'TAKE BOX' or 'EXAMINE TRAPDOOR'. A list of verbs understood by the program is given below.

Two instructions may be given at once by using 'THEN' in between. eg. 'TAKE BOX THEN EXAMINE TRAPDOOR'. or 'GO WEST THEN SOUTH'.

The word 'IT' will be understood as the last object mentioned. (By you, not by the computer) eg. 'TAKE BOX' (ENTER) 'OPEN IT' (ENTER).

Most problems will have logical solutions, and the adventure will not continue if it is impossible to finish, so don't give up too easily! If you get really stuck, write to us for help. (Please enclose an S.A.E.)

Typing 'FAST' speeds up the program, but some Dragons may 'crash' if this is used, so don't try it half way through a game.

Movement is achieved using a Verb and a Direction, or just a Direction. Verbs are: Go, Walk, Run, Climb, and Jump. Directions are: North, East, South, West, Up, and Down (or N,E,S,W,U,D) eg. GO NORTH; W THEN S; CLIMB U; N.
