How to play
- Joystick: Insert a joystick (self centering recommended) into the
RIGHT joystick port. At the title page, press the joystick button to
start the game.
- Collect the Flags: Collect the 10 flags before your fuel runs out to
advance to the next stage. There are 9 x YELLOW flags and a 1 x
ORANGE special flag to collect in each stage.
- Avoid the Red Karts: In each stage, there will be 2, 4 or 6
RED karts that chase you. You start the game with 4 CYAN karts
and are awarded an extra kart at 1500 points. You lose a kart when you are
caught by the RED karts.
- Overhead View and Radar: Pay constant attention to the overhead view
on the left side of the screen AND the radar view on the right. The
radar view shows the relative positions of the flags (DARK BLUE dots) and the
proximity of the red karts (BLACK dots). You are represented by the large CYAN
dot.
Controls
- Joystick: Move the joystick to direct your kart in the direction you
wish to go. Your kart always moves forward and will automatically turn
when it hits a wall. Hold the joystick in a new direction in anticipation of a
turn.
- Joystick Button: Releases a Smoke Screen behind your kart.
Red karts that run into this smoke will turn away. This can be used to your
advantage for diverting the RED karts but burns your fuel more quickly so don't
overuse it. If you have a 2 button joystick, both buttons will function the
same.
- [SHIFT]+[CLEAR]: Pauses current game in progress. Any key starts it
again.
- [SHIFT]+[BREAK]: Aborts current game in progress.
Scoring
- Yellow Flags - Scores begin at 5 and increment by 5 with each flag
obtained.
- Orange Special Flag - Will add 5 to each subsequent flag score until
the end of the current stage or you are caught by a red kart. Try to collect
these flags as soon as you can to boost all subsequent flag scores in the
stage.
- Fuel Bonus: At the completion of each stage, you will receive a
Bonus Score based on the fuel you have left. You begin each stage with a full
tank of fuel.
- Challenge Stage - Levels 3, 6 and 9 are challenge stages where there
are no red cars chasing you but you have a time limit to complete the
stage. Scores begin at 10 and increment by 10 with each flag obtained. The
ORANGE special flag adds another 5 to each of the subsequent flag scores.
